On March 7, Mondo will be opening up pre-orders for their latest large 1/6 scale Masters of the Universe figure, Trap Jaw! And just like their previous large scale figures, the price will be oversized as well. Past figures in this timed edition line come with a hefty price tag of around $250. This is definitely a toy line made for die-hard He-Man fans. The prices may be up there, but you can’t deny the beauty of the toys.
Last November, I attended DesignerCon 2022 in Anaheim, CA and got the opportunity to see Mondo’s Trap Jaw up close and in person! On day one of the convention, I headed straight to the Mondo booth and snapped some pictures of Trap Jaw. Much like Mondo’s other Masters figures, it is incredible. The figure was one of the best Trap Jaw figures I have ever seen. Due to its size, the figure is filled with amazing details that show off where your money is going. It’s impressive to say the least.
But here’s the issue. Just a month after Designer Con, Mondo’s He-Man 1/6 Deluxe figure started hitting toy collector’s porches and it was met with major QC issues. When He-Man, the main character in the Masters of the Universe line, shows up to collectors in pieces, you start rethinking those high priced deluxe figures. You have to wonder if this is a one-off problem, or if it will be something that’s going to plague the line from here on out.
Even though Mondo bounced back and worked through He-Man figure’s QC issues with the collectors, by replacing parts and making things right, will the MOTU fans be gun shy about dropping their money for Trap Jaw on March 7th? Was He-Man just a one time hiccup, or is this a sign of how things will be now that Funko has purchased Mondo?
If Mondo’s next figure reaches doorsteps in pieces, will it be the end of the line or will the fans stick it out? Is Mondo’s timed edition running out of time?
