Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson did an interview with The Film Collective, where he talked about a variety of topics including the upcoming Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel. In the interview, he gave more details about Winston Zeddemore‘s role in the film and alluded to a Dan Aykroyd, Annie Potts and possibly Bill Murray return!
When asked what he could tease about Afterlife 2 and where Winston – who we learned in a post-credits scene is now rich and had bought the Ghostbusters Firehouse – is going to be heading, Hudson confirmed that Winston “is very much a part of” the movie. He also casually dropped the following quote:
“It’s great to be back with Danny and Bill and Annie Potts and the new cast. It’s been forty years, it just feels like family.“
While Bill is most likely of the Murray variety, there’s an outside chance that he was referring to William Atherton, who he mentioned working with in the movie earlier in the interview. Columbia Pictures has yet to confirm the surviving original casts’ involvement.
You can watch the entire interview below (Ghostbusters talk starts around the 15:30 mark), but one other thing Hudson said of note was regarding how fans see Winston’s place in the Ghostbusters vs. how studio executives have treated him:
“I had a studio exec say, “Wow! The fans sort of think of Winston like he’s one of the Ghostbusters,” and I thought, that’s what I thought he was.”
What a wild/rude thing to say to someone’s face from an out-of-touch exec. Since Winston owns the Firehouse and we know Ghostbusters Afterlife 2 takes place in New York City, we hope audiences get a lot of Winston on screen.
Ghostbusters Afterlife 2 is directed by Gil Kenan and will be out on December 20, 2023.
