We’ve always known that Andor will finish at the exact moment we meet Cassian in Rogue One (my personal favorite non-OG trilogy movie), but in an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine, showrunner Tony Gilroy shared that the show’s second and final season will be broken into several blocks of episodes, with the final three beginning just three days before the movie takes place.
Season 1 of Andor begins five years before Luke’s one-in-a-million shot blows up the Death Star. To catch us up to the Rogue One/A New Hope timeline, we skip ahead a year after each block of episodes, with the final block of three episodes covering, “the last three days before Rogue One.”
In the interview, series star Diego Luna promises that, “The risks this season will take are very different,” with Gilroy chiming in that it will be different in “every way.”
The full interview appears in the Secret Invasion issue of Empire, which will be in newsstands on Thursday, May 11, 2023. The issue features a whopping 20-pages dedicated to Star Wars, including interviews and photoshoots with Gilroy, Luna, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, Katee Sackhoff, Rosario Dawson, Andy Serkis, and many more.
Here’s the cover for anyone who is a visual person:
