Paramount+ announced a press release today that it has official greenlit Star Trek: Section 31 starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once). Yeoh will be reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery‘s first season.
In a statement, Yeoh said, “I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I’ve loved for so long. To see [Philippa] finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!”
The plot of Star Trek: Section 31 sees Georgiou joining a secret division of Starfleet that’s tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, where she has to face the sins of her past. Production will begin later in 2023.
The idea for the series goes back to 2017, when Yeoh had the idea for a Philippa Georgio spin-off.
Star Trek: Section 31 is written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. It is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Sweeny, Osunsanmi, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Yeoh.
