Three new Star Wars films were announced back in April at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. While Disney hasn’t said upcoming of these films will be on which dates, it’s speculated that the film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy – set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker about rebuilding the Jedi Order – is the December 2025 movie that was pushed back to May 2026 due to the writers’ strike.

The Star Wars film with a December 18, 2026 release is likely the one directed by Dave Filoni that takes place during the era of the New Republic that will close out stories from The Mandalorian universe and his animated projects. This means the third Star Wars movie, slated for December 17, 2027, is Dawn of the Jedi, a James Mangold-helmed film set in the distant past, telling the story of the earliest Jedi.

Two more Star Wars films are in development, as well: One written and directed by Taika Waititi, which is still in the writing phase with a targeted 2024 production, and another by Shawn Levy, which will not start production until after Levy finishes Deadpool 3.
