Columbia Pictures and Sony announced today that they’ve pushed up the release date for the sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire by one week. Frozen Empire was previously scheduled for release on March 29, but will now be out in theaters on March 22, 2024.
The move positions the film to capitalize on another week of spring break viewership in a fairly open window, opening against Lionsgate’s Mark Wahlberg adventure pic Arthur the King and Focus Features’ The American Society of Magical Negroes, among other titles.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will star returning cast members Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Annie Potts. The movie welcomes new characters played by Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. It’s directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Kenan and Jason Reitman.
